Claude Subscriptions Get Pricier for Power Users with New API-Based Billing
Anthropic's Claude subscriptions are undergoing a significant billing overhaul, separating programmatic usage from interactive use and charging at full API rates, effective June 15. This change is expected to increase costs for heavy users of third-party applications, potentially altering the competitive landscape of AI models.
As of June 15, Anthropic is splitting programmatic Claude usage out of the existing subscription quota. Instead, subscribers get a dedicated monthly credit ranging from $20 to $200 depending on their plan. Going forward, SDK and third-party requests will be billed at full API rates rather than the subsidized flat rate they were previously counted against.
